A city park since 1800, it is located in Downtown Painesville and is the pride of the city offering beautiful gardens and plenty of open green space. The park has a gazebo that is very popular as a site for weddings and gatherings.
Veteran's Park is also home to the Civil War Memorial and Lincoln Marker, The Civil War Memorial is 48 feet tall and surrounded by wrought iron fence. R. F. Carter created this monument out of Vermont granite. The monument was erected in 1880 and was transported using 10 railroad cars. Located next to the monument is the Lincoln Marker, a large boulder made of granite. The bronze plaque on the boulder commemorates Lincoln's visit in 1861, as well as the stop of his funeral train years later. Before his presidency, Garfield spoke at the dedication ceremony for the marker.
